Keynote over

So the WWDC keynote is over, and Apple announced a lot of stuff. Let’s see

iPhone SDK is cool

Good to know. Did that really have to take an hour?

OS X iPhone 2.0

Nice, but nothing really industry changing, especially as I don’t happen to have an iPhone or iPod touch.

iPhone 3G

Again, nice, but that had been practically announced by AT&T quite a while ago. I find the distribution model interesting: With subsidy, and activated in stores. Looks like Apple has lost with it’s new take on the mobile phone business.

Mobile Me

.Mac looks better. So what? I’m still not buying it.

Snow Leopard

Most information comes from a press release that Apple has retracted since, but you can still find it at [Gizmodo for example](http://gizmodo.com/5014789/snow-leopard-revealed-multi+core-optimized-gpu-lovin-os-upgrade-due-in-one-year). GPGPU, new Quicktime, new scheduler for CPU and GPU, that all sounds nice. Heise [claims][heise] that Objective-C will get blocks, which would be insanely cool for me.

The problem I have with it is that this is all. Oh, yes, Exchange, but I’m not going to pay for that. The price has been left open. Speculation ranges from 0 to 130€. I’ll assume 130€, anything else would likely lead to disappointment. No word on whether PowerPC will be shot, like rumored. Being an owner of a latest-generation iMac G5, I’d be very, very unhappy if they did that. I have no idea whether I could skip this update even if I wanted to, since I like to keep my software current and at least some will only be available for 10.6 or only have all features there. I don’t really want to skip either, but 130€ for a system that doesn’t run on my main computer doesn’t sound very interesting.

Bingo

Despite it all, we came close to “Bingo”. All that was missing was a “One more thing” or an updated MacBook Pro. I wouldn’t have guessed that at the beginning, when Steve said that it was to be all about the iPhone.
