EU Tenders
There are many ways of getting reliable information about the railroad business.
One of my favorite solutions is the [EU tenders database][ted]. It’s very technical, formulaic and difficult to understand, especially as the interesting information is only in the language of the country where the interesting stuff happens. Still, you sometimes hit very interesting things.
For example, I haven’t seen anywhere that the [HGK] is buying two [Voith Gravita 10BB][gravita]. That they are doing so isn’t that surprising, after all the Voith service center is being built on HGK ground and it’s already well-known that 18 Gravitas will be shipped to private companies, but still, this precise information is new. You’ll find it in the [official publication concerning the deal][hgkkauf][^1]. By the way, it appears that a Gravita 10 BB costs 1.7 million euros a piece, without VAT.
Sadly, I couldn’t find the tender for the EMUs with a top speed of 230 kph, but without tilting technology, by DB, again. I wonder what happened to that.
Update
Apparently [Railfaneurope.net][rfe] knew about these orders before me. Doesn’t matter for me, what counts is the thrill of the information hunt.
