Freight Line

Notes
Considering that the Montzenroute, the most important connection between the harbour of Antwerpen and Germany, is named after the place, you’d expect more of Montzen than it is. The village is horribly boring, and the rail yard is about half as large as the rest of it. It all mainly consists of wide but bad roads. While there is a lot of freight traffic here, there is no passenger traffic at all, which makes sense, since I don’t think anybody really wants to go here.
As you can see, the route starting in Montzen and continuing west is electrified again, as is the part between Aachen West and Tunnel of Gemmenich. The gap between these two is basically more or less the Viaduct of Moresnet. However, work is under way to close this gap, and starting in mid-december 2008, the various sorts of impressive Diesels will start to be replaced by modern electrics - hence me buying a new camera before that date.
By the way, at the end of the track, that doesn’t just look like a class 66, it is one. And a second one, although I don’t think one can see that here.
