Notes
While I am not a member of the extremist factions (who argue that it is a sin to bring any sort of protective gear other than corrective glasses to a steam ride), I do think that if you’re not subscribing to a less literal interpretation of the “Don’t lean out” signs in the historic coaches, you are doing something wrong. Why anybody would want to do this while stationary in Solingen central, though, is somewhat beyond me, considering that yo don’t see much more than class 628 DMUs. It does give the option of comparing windowing strategies (small but can open wide vs. large but hardly opens at all) and of course some interesting reflections, though.
An important notice: The current central station of Solingen was originally called Solingen Ohligs. The former central station has apparently been out of service for some years now, but both Google Maps on the iPhone and a freshly-bought TomTom GPS unit will still gladly lead you there if you ask for the central station, which is not that helpful if you want to board a steam train at the new one.
