Industry and Semaphores

Notes

Compared with other industrial areas, or even with itself fifty years ago, modern Oker isn’t all that impressive. Still, you can often find interesting things. Here, for example, we are looking at the western end of Oker’s station with it’s signal box. Oker still has two manned and fully mechanical signal boxes, controlling old semaphores, which are all showing variations of “stop” in this picture.

Behind this, you can see the lights of H.C. Starck, a company producing high purity metals and metal compounds for all sorts of purposes, for example electronics and high performance ceramics. The company is active all over the world, but Oker is it’s main seat (actually, they always say Goslar is their main seat, since Oker is a part of Goslar).

The older gray building to the right belongs to Oker-Chemie, another chemistry company, producing diverse chemicals which are used in the production of other things. In the background the hill is the Sudmerberg, which gives the name to the Sudmerberg settlement (not seen here. It’s boring). I mainly mention this to have the monopoly on DeviantArt for another place’s name
