Notes
The S28 line of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr system is an oddity. The rest of the system uses a variety of types, but all electric and at least 67 meters long. However, the S28, which is run by “Regiobahn”, a company owned by the surrounding towns and cities, uses Bombardier TALENT DMUs with a length of less than 40 meters.
This is because this is not an integral part of the system, but rather used to connect smaller towns and stations along reactivated old lines, which tend not to be electrified. The trains are very similar to the 643.2 used by Aachen’s Euregiobahn, although there are a number of differences such as entry height, and whether the unit is prepared for use in the Netherlands or as a streetcar (the Regiobahn ones aren’t).
This one is currently driving into Neuss Rheinpark station in the vicinity of Düsseldorf.
