Notes
This is in response to Soma’s My Way Series: 14. Shown here are the seats in a standard, modern swiss coach for national service in second class on an InterRegio from Bellinzona (via Gotthard) to Basel, i.e. the entire country in North-South-direction. The same coaches are, as far as I can tell, used on most normal gauge service. Do they remind you of anything?
Having the same seats in swiss long-distance coaches as in german regional ones can lead to two conclusions, and I tend towards the second: That the swiss are rather cheap. Sure, those are good seats for a regional train, and in the swiss train they are even farther apart and the air channel does not annoy you as much (the increased head room goes without saying). Still, compared to other trains both in Switzerland and elsewhere, it’s just not quite as great.
