Notes

I returned to Goslar station shortly after this all was done, because I had heard that a class 614 train would appear here. As a matter of fact, it did. The VT 614 looks vaguely similar to the class 628, but is technically actually more similar to the older classes 624 and 634. A 614 tends to consist of three parts, two class 614 motor cars at the end and a class 914 unpowered middle car. However, two- and four-part configurations were possible as well, and in fact you could mix-and-match with class 624/634 power and middle cars.

These days, the 614 is seeing less and less use, being replaced by new things such as, in the railroad district Braunschweig (which was one of the main users of this type) by the class 648 Coradia LINT. In fact, I can’t rule out that this special train was a more-or-less official farewell ride for this type around here. Glad I got a picture of it.
