It’s been a while since the last picture I posted. In my defense, I’m lazy, and yes I know that’s not a great defense, I just can’t be bothered to think of a better one right now.
Still from my Berlin trip, we have a train heading out from “Schlesisches Tor” stop towards “Warschauer Straße”, on the older “Kleinprofil” network. One of the reasons why I love Berlin is that the city manages to be quite different at nearly every other corner. The district Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg shares little in common with, say, Lichtenberg, but it’s very interesting nevertheless.
The U in the german U-Bahn does stand for Underground (Untergrund in German), but nevertheless, large, especially older parts of the network, are built as an elevated railway to save costs, especially during a time when building tunnels in dense city centres wasn’t a foolproof idea yet. The stations on those lines tend to be amongst the most beautiful and most interesting, precisely because they are amongst the oldest.
