Notes
Venlo is one of the border stations between Germany and the Netherlands. While it’s fully owned and operated by the dutch side under dutch rules, there are parts that have german 15 kV 16.7 Hz AC electrification. This train takes advantage of that.
Notice that the cab car is pointed west, and it always is pointed west here, because the transition between the systems is somewhere in the middle of the platform and the german locomotive (a class 111) has to stand in the german electricity section. Another interesting thing: The sign of the train says Hamm, and considers it a Regionalexpress. The dutch platform sign says Hagen instead and says the train is a Stoptrein (equivalent to a german Regionalbahn, a Regionalexpress is more like a Sneltrein). No idea which one is correct here.
