Notes
The sowjet M62 was distributed all along the eastern bloc. Since for at least the first few deliveries, mufflers were considered superfluous capitalist decadence, they quickly earned the nick-name “Taigatrommel”, in english “Taiga Drum” in the GDR. Present in large numbers in eastern europe, but generally inefficient, they were considered a prime target for modernization by General Electric.
This unit has received a new engine, generator, electrics, re-built traction motors, and of course a completely new (and rather uninspired) body shell. The small and dirty cabs don’t look that great though, when you take a look inside.
The company that shows us Newton’s second law of motion here is Heavy Haul Power International (HHPI), which normally tends to use a lot of EMD Class 66s.
