Notes
In the 1950s there was, thanks to normal use and war damage, a shortage of locomotives on the narrow gauge lines in the Harz. So from 1954 to 1956, based on the latest of the pre-war machines, the seventeen locomotives 99 7231 to 99 7247 were built. They are known as the “Neubauloks” (Newly built locomotives).
With a power of 522 kW (700 HP) and a top speed of 40 kph they, along with 99 222, the last of the pre-war locomotives they were based on, are the most powerful steam locomotives the HSB owns, and thank to their large number you can see them always and everywhere. Here, 99 7238 is standing next to Wernigerode’s engine shed.
