Notes
Three belgian locomotives of class 77 pass through Aachen main station. The belgian class 77 is mostly identical to the Vossloh/MaK [G1206](/en/trains/Seco-Rail), but has some changes and a belgian prime mover. Some of the class are also homologated for germany.
These units come through the "Buschtunnel", one of two routes connecting Aachen and Belgium. The Bushtunnel route has a rather significant grade, so it’s normally only used by passenger trains. However, the other line, known as Montzentroute, is currently operating on limited capacity as it’s being electrified (on the belgian side, the german one is already), so some freight trains use the Buschtunnel now. However, they only go through it downhill, which means from Belgium to Germany in this case.
To the left, there’s a Bombardier TALENT, german railway class 643.2 used on the Euregiobahn. That wasn’t the goal of the picture, but then, it doesn’t do any harm either.
