Notes
Say what you want, you can’t claim that Rheinbahn, the operator of the streetcar and light rail system in Düsseldorf, lets things go to waste. Streetcar 3040 is a DUEWAG GT8S, built in 1974, and by far not the oldest thing you see driving around there frequently.
An interesting detail is that it has doors on both sides, something that most of Düsseldorf’s streetcars don’t have, although all LRVs do. It also has the red-white paint scheme that was originally the dedicated standard for LRVs in Germany, although it has fallen out of favor since. Indeed, a number of these vehicles have received folding steps and are now used as LRVs, together with the ever-popular type B.
